Our Founder Santosh Kuruvilla has covered a lot of ground in his career, starting in his native India, where he studied hotel management, then moving on to Switzerland for an advanced degree in hospitality management at the prestigious César Ritz Le Bouveret. Since then, he’s held management and executive positions at hotels around the world. “My career has taken me from Nashville to Hershey, PA; from Atlantic City to Dubai; from Singapore to Vietnam; and from the Florida Keys to California.” That includes a lot of varied experiences. He saw success with each one—and played a critical role in the openings of a few iconic properties. Among them: Atlantis in Dubai, Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, and the InterContinental Danang. More recently, he spent four years at the Irvine Company, first as hotel manager at the Resort at Pelican Hill, managing all operational divisions of the 332-room property, including 950-plus employees. He implemented a cost per occupied room (CPOR) calculation model that resulted in $400,000 in labor cost savings over one year, and created guest experience initiatives that helped earn its Forbes Five Star and AAA Five Diamond ratings. Those successes propelled him to another monumental opening—the Irvine Company’s Villas Fashion Island, a 525-unit residential complex that generated $2.2 million in annual rent during his tenure. He developed an immersive training program for the 25 employees who ran day-to-day operations at the property, which boasts resort-style amenities for an elite demographic. “Simplifying complex openings and big problems is one of my strengths.”
